WOMEN ISSUES
  :: Celebration of International Migration Day (December 18, 2007) ::
 
18 December is a day when the international community recognizes the rights of migrants around the world. The UN General Assembly approved the International Convention on the protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their families on 18 December 1990, and the day was officially designated International Migrants Day (IMD) by the United Nations in 2000.

The Peace and Development Institute (PDI) with financial supported from UNIFEM project office in Cambodia to organize the celebration of the IMD on 18 Dec 2007 thru radio roundtable discussion with its objective to increase the level of awareness of the citizens on safe migration, migrant's human rights and CEDAW through radio roundtable discussion.

The main issue for this year was specifically highlight and educates people on the migration Convention and why Cambodia should ratify it; through selected 5 radio stations FM93.5, FM95, FM102, FM104 and FM 105 combined have the capacity to cover 80% of nation’s airwaves reaching almost a 1,000,000 people during these join event. The expert/speakers and ex-women migrant workers are invited for each of the shows.
   
 
  Mr. Hou Vuthy, Deputy Director of Work Department of MoLVT and Mr. Sok Chanpheakdey, Director of Philimore Company & Secretary of Association of Cambodian Recruiting Agency (ACRA) and Ms. Sun Savoeun, migrant worker returning from Malaysia (via Philimore) was participated during the celebration of IMD for the year 2007 through Radio Talk-Show-Roundtable at FM93.5 MHz.

 

 

 

  H.E. Chou Bun Eng, Director of Social Development Department of MOWA and Mr. THAO Mineara, Executive Director of Association of Domestic and Migrant Workers Association (DMWA) and Ms. Kim Huy, Ex-migrant worker was invited to the show  at FM105. MHz.
